Today we’d like to introduce you to Ramonis Campelo.
Ramonis, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I arrived in America with a dream and this dream came true when I opened Limitless. I was born in Recife, a city in the northeast of Brazil. From a very young age my parents always made sure I was in all kinds of sports from swimming and surfing to soccer, I even played for a few professional soccer leagues back home. I’ve always had a true passion for exercise and fitness, it’s in my blood.
I come from a very humble family and didn’t have many opportunities so I decided to go to New York in 2010 and work for a better life. I met amazing people, had great experiences but worked more than full time for low wage as an immigrant. I wasn’t able to work in the fitness industry at all. After a while I decided it was time to go to a warmer place and my cousin lived in Miami. So I came in 2013 to this amazing place and I fell so in love with Miami! This is when my life took a turn for better. I met my wife Lorena that same year and two years later we had our beautiful baby girl Luma.
I began taking fitness courses, getting my certificates and became a personal trainer! I was so hyped I couldn’t believe it! I started working at a gym by my house at the time, meeting other trainers, becoming more and more knowledgeable and gaining experience. After a while I left and began doing private personal training in clients’ homes and a studio in North Miami Beach.
My dream was always to have my own gym, I used to draw sketches of how it would look and what the layout would be. People called me crazy when I said I was opening my own gym. Nobody believed me but I knew what I was doing. My budget was super tight but I knew if I didn’t do it that time, I wouldn’t do it anymore. So I found a place and began working to get it ready to be a gym. While my wife did all the paper work, licenses and permits, I painted, fixed bathrooms, changed lights, installed floors, brought in equipment, weights and everything else! My budget was so tight I basically did everything myself to save as much money as I could, after all, this was my only shot.
The day finally came and my dream had come true: My gym was ready! And everyone that didn’t believe me came to congratulate me and tell me what a good job I had done. The gym officially opened on January 2nd, 2017 but the inauguration party was on the 19th (my lucky number). It’s been a bumpy but amazing ride so far! We are loving every day of it and we are still mesmerized by our amazing conquer. I have my beautiful family to thank for the support and all my hard work that finally paid off! I DID IT!
Has it been a smooth road?
I come from a very humble family and didn’t have many opportunities growing up. When I decided to move to New York as an illegal immigrant I had underpaid jobs, worked super long hours and could barely afford my own rent. The whole struggle of being and illegal immigrant, not speaking the language, only working and not having fun and enjoying life.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Limitless – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We have CrossFit equipment, functional training and personal training. We offer regular membership for clients to train on their own, classes of max 10 people (it’s like having a personal trainer!) and actual personal training.
We make our clients feel like they are home, give them a bracelet that opens the front door of the gym and we maintain this gym as clean as our own home.
Whatever your goal is, you can achieve it here! Our trainers are the best in town, we have a retired professional boxer Gil Reyes for boxing lessons, Master Personal trainer Ramonis Campelo teaching many classes and personal training sessions and many other experience trainer on our team and together we are Limitless.
I am especially proud of the quality of our equipment, the team of trainers and our cleanliness.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I am in love with the energy here in Miami. The perfect mixture of cultures, colors, languages. I love the weather and the people. The best part is how much you learn about the world, there’s literally people from all over the world in this city and everyday I come across a new story or an interesting fact about another country or culture. I love being by the ocean, working out by the beach, going for a run looking at the ocean.
The only thing that bothers me is street parking and how expensive rent is.
